How to apply for a Fire Permit
You can light, use or maintain a fire under Section 89 of the Rural Fires Act (1997, as amended) during the designated Bush Fire Period.
Land holders are able to apply for a Fire Permit during the designated Bush Fire Danger Period for a number of approved activities. These include (but are not limited to):
Land Clearance
Burning a fire break
Removing a fire hazard
Agricultural purposes
Pile burns where the pile could pose a fire hazard
Should a permit be issued by an official RFS member with the authority to issue a Fire Permit, a number of restrictions and criteria apply. These include (but are not limited to):
One person shall be present at the site of the fire from the time it is lit until such time it is extinguished. This person must carry the Fire Permit while attending the fire.
The Fire Permit is valid for only 21 days from time of issue. A new permit must be applied for again after this period
The Fire Permit will only be issued once the authorising representative of the RFS has inspected the site
The permit holder must inform Wingecarribee NSW Rural Fire Service at least 24 hours before lighting the fire during business hours Mon-Fri
The Fire Permit will be suspended on days of a Total Fire Ban
The Fire Permit will be suspended on days of Very High or above fire danger
